What a weekend.. and it still isn't over yet. Jack's brother and sister have both just left. One heading north and the other to SA... Great catch up with all of them. Love seeing cousins playing together. I am buggered, two late nights and early mornings... buggered.
We had a bonfire last night and cooking tea on it. True 'bush tucker" people we are hey.. Jack has a old plough disc that he welded legs on that we use as a bbq hotplate with green salad, potatoes cooked in coals with fresh corn (with chili and lime) also cooked in the coals. Delish...
I brought Jack's sister and her kids back up to the house, then only minutes after I heard Jack's ute and knew that someone had burnt themselves even before he pulled up. Surely enough, little Laura had picked up a stick and burnt her hand. Run it under water, but it still blistered, put her in the shower to clean off the grot, gave her some nurofen for pain and she wanted to go to bed. Poor thing couldn't settle. After an hour I tried to call our hospital and couldn't get an answer. So then, we rang that 1800 nurse on call number. Long story short, she made me feel bad that I didn't take her straight to hospital and that I shouldn't have put ice on it etc., but we ended up at A & E in Horsham.
The poor little poppet has one large burn and about 8 other little blisters. She has an amazing pain threshold, and has been so brave. But she is sleeping. She didn't fall asleep until about 12.10 this morning.. VERY late night. Hugh is also catching up of sleep...
so shhhh... my babies are sleeping...

ohh owee! poor wee poppet! But dont feel bad, you did what we are told to do in that situation, its very difficult to judge how serious it is.
Your dinner sounds devine though!
I agree with Sarah. Don't feel bad,you did what you thought was right and that nurse had no right to make you feel bad. She should have been supportive and explained it in a positive light.
I hope you are both feeling better ASAP.
Kerry
Kerry is right, the nurse was NOT supportive, you did not need to be told off, you needed understanding and support! I hope Laura felt a bit better when she woke up... poor kid. I suppose she will have learnt a valuable lesson from this if nothing else.. burning sticks actually do burn you!
You did what you thought was right..don't let anyone make you feel bad for doing that!! Poor little thing.. what a trooper!
In response to your question, yes, I am still feeding Molly... that's why it's super important for me to eat enough.. I am finding it hard as my appetite is not as big as I thought it would be (everyone says you should be starving!!) But I guess I am eating enough of the right things as my milk supply is good and I'm not too hungry.
Thanks for your comment!
Oh, have been there with my wee lad when he was about three. Went running out to see a mate of ours who had just arrived on his motorbike and burnt his leg on the chrome exhaust. I found aloe vera gel, straight from the plant, brilliant in helping it heal.
Jules is right, Aloe Vera has save my family many times from motorbike burns to sunburn to itchy bites.
Poooooor lil Laura.
I TOTALLY pictured the ploughing plate with legs on it. We actually had one with three welded together, so we'd have onion rings stewing in one side, snags in one and meat in the other. Fantastic bush barbies.
You've made me crave a bonfire. Perhaps we might do one this weekend on the farm for those without family this easter.
