To eat like a child....

My middle child in sitting on the couch, rubbing her tummy telling me that she ate to much breakfast, I am sitting here admiring her intuition on how she interrupts how her belly feels...
If only we could all get that back, i think we would be a thinner and healthier society!
Little Laura asked for Pancakes for breakfast this morning, she wanted two, one yellow and one brown (a little burnt.. - do you know how hard it is to burn a pancake when you are trying to??) with Golden syrup.
I made my little possum her request and she ate almost all of them, leaving maybe half a pancake. Many mothers would insist that she finish her plate off.. "come on there girly.. I just made all of this mess for your pancakes, the least you can do is eat it all!"
But, Laura knows when to stop, when her tummy is full! Most adults would ignore this feeling and just keep on eating, because they taste nice or the effort that went into making them, or "I might be hungry later"
Who am I to override her own hungry signals... I really hope she can kept them!

It makes sense doesn't it :)

Although I did used to crack it when Andrew was little. We'd go out for lunch and he'd order something expensive then have a couple of bites and be full (then be hungry again half hour later!!!)

Btw I want pancakes now.

I want pancakes too! I have some frozen at home and they may have just become tea... It's a good way to get me to eat yoghurt.

Eating really can be as simple as that. Good on you for encouraging this! (I can't help but wonder...had Laura asked, would you have given her Coco Pops? Hehe..)

Giving your kids healthy eating habits is one of the best gifts you could ever give them. They are very lucky to benefit from your wisdom!

I respect my kids' hunger signals now that they all eat, and don't turn their noses up at everything that is put in front of them. When they were smaller, I didn't......

Good on you for tuning in to her signals, and giving her that respect.

That is really fantastic.

Recently I had to stop myself when bub wouldn't eat the last of his dinner. Refused flatly. Here I was trying to get him to eat one last mouthful and then it dawned on me when he said "No more".

That's the way it should be.

I've been dreaming of pancakes but we dont have them because of Josh's egg allergy. Haha - i don't think Josh is ever full, thank goodness he has his daddy's genes....

I think I could learn a thing or two from your daughter!
